Leftover fruit at the end of your week? Use this #Sangria recipe to use up those apples and oranges that won't make it through the rest of the week.

One of the things we love to do on week nights is a happy hour. We will make a drink and enjoy a cheese board (check back for a whole blog about cheese and making a cheese board), while we recap our days and catch up on the news of the day. It is one of my favorite times of day. I love connecting with Mr. Deets while we snack a bit before dinner. We like to try different drinks. Sometimes it is a simple glass of wine from a bottle that complements our main course, other nights it is a martini with blue cheese stuffed olives (recipe link coming soon!). But tonight and at the end of most weeks, we have Sangria.

Sangria is a Spanish drink that is a popular cocktail in the warm summer months. But, we make it work year round. Our classic sangria is a mix of fruit, brandy and red wine.

Any wine will do, even the cheap stuff. But, the best that we have had is a Spanish Tempranillo. It has a little spice that adds a little #detail that other wines are missing.

If you prefer your sangria more boozy flavored, add more Brandy. If you'd like it more juicy, add more orange juice.

This is a great cocktail to make for a party. You can make it fairly inexpensively in large batches. No one would guess it's only a few ingredients and took only a few minutes to make. #ProTip: Don't add ice to the cocktail, add it to the glass you are serving it in. That way you won't dilute it with water if you don't finish the whole pitcher.

Recipe

4 Tablespoons brown sugar

1 apple

1 orange

1/2 Cup Brandy

1/2 Cup orange juice

1 bottle of a spicy red wine

Directions

1. Add the brown sugar, brandy and orange juice to the pitcher. Mix until the brown sugar is dissolved.

2. Cut up the apple and orange into chunks (you decide the size and shape, but see the pictures above for my preference). Add the cut fruit to the pitcher

3. Pour wine into pitcher. Mix all contents together

4. Chill

5. Serve in a large red wine glass with ice and fruit as a #detail garnish
